THE SYMBOLIC OF HOLD FAST TATTOOS:
In the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, for sailors who rode through storms on seas and oceans, the expression “Hold Fast” had a meaning of life or death.
On deck and in the midst of storms, when their ship rocked in the waves, the strength to hold on tight to the helm was decisive for their lives: weather the storm and survive or end up at the bottom of the ocean.
"Fast" was also the expression used by sailors to name a very tight rope.
As a result, the words HOLD FAST are usually tattooed on the knuckles, in order to remember that, whatever the hardships to face, you have to hang on to survive!
