Vintage Workwear Pike Brothers Shirt — 1959 Sun Glasses Woody Clear Black
Cellulose acetate – the selvedge denim of eyewear materials. Eyeglasses made from cellulose acetate, or acetate, revolutionized the eyewear market in the 1920s and 1930s.
This plastic, however, has natural roots. Acetate is made from cotton and treated with a chemical process to create a durable, lightweight, and easily dyed material. Just as it was 100 years ago, the base material for our glasses—acetate sheets—is made in Italy. These sheets are then handcrafted in Portugal. The shapes we use all have historical roots and are classics in the history of eyewear.
We offer glasses with or without sun lenses. For our sunglasses lenses, we only use renowned manufacturers such as Zeiss or Sel Optical.
Our 1959 Woody eyeglass frame is a classic from the late 1950s. The frame is milled, polished and assembled by hand, as it should be.
The following details distinguish our 1959 Woody:
– 100% Italian cellulose acetate
– glass width 48 mm
– bridge width 12 mm
– Lenses: Sel Optical CR37/UV400
– handmade in Portugal
